How to Hide a Folder in Windows

Hello, tech enthusiasts! This is Tracy, today we’re going to learn a neat little trick about hiding folders in Windows. Why would you want to hide a folder, you ask? Well, sometimes we just need that extra layer of privacy. Let’s dive straight into it!

Step 1: Selecting The Folder

First, you need to locate the folder you want hidden. It could be on your Desktop or within a certain directory. Simply find it and proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Properties Modification

Right-click on this folder, and in the drop-down menu, select ‘Properties’. This will bring up a dialog box with multiple tabs.

Step 3: Making The Folder Hidden

In the ‘Properties’ dialog box, go to the ‘General’ tab. There you will find an ‘Attributes’ section at the bottom, check the ‘Hidden’ box. Click ‘Apply’ to save the changes.

Note:

By doing this, you have technically hidden the folder but it can still be viewable if the computer is set to display hidden items. Here’s how you can make it truly invisible.

Step 4: Totally Concealing the Folder

To ensure your folder is not displayed, navigate to ‘File Explorer Options’ in the control panel. Under the ‘View’ tab, you’d find an option ‘Hidden files and folders’, select ‘Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drives’. Click ‘Apply’ to save this setting. Your folder is now truly hidden.

And that’s it, folks! Remember, technology doesn’t have to be intimidating. This is Tracy, your tech guide, reminding you to explore, learn and conquer the digital world one step at a time.
